Uttara Kalamrita : Section VI: Sloka 1: States (Avasthas) of Planets

Nine states of a planet are as listed below:

i) Dipta (Blazing)

The planet is in this state when it is in its exaltation sign

ii) Stimita (Stable)

When it is posited in its own sign

iii) Mudita (Delighted)

When it is posited in the sign of a extreme friend

iV) Shanta (Calm)

When it is in the sign of a friend

v) Hina (Deficient)

When if is in the house of a neutral planet

vi) Dukkha (Dejected)

When it is in an inimical sign

vii) Vikala (Vexatious)

when itis conjunct with a malefic planet

viii) Khala (wicked)

When it is defeated in planetary war

ix) Kopa (Angry)

When it is combust due to nearness to sun.
