Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 7: Auspicious Yoga

This yoga describes the effects of the Lagna Lord (Ascendant Lord) occupying the First, Middle or Last Decante:

1) Lord of Lagna occupying the First Decante the person will be a judge
2) Lord of Lagna occupying the Second Decante the person will be a chief
3) Lord of the Lagna occupying the Third Decante the person will be the chief of a village

Placement of Lagna Lord in Lagnesh

1) If the Lagnesh is placed in Lagna is aspected or placed with Venus, Jupiter, Mercury
2) It is in Soumya Vargas
3) It is in exaltation and has benefic aspects

The Above three combinations will make the person a king of kings.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 6: InAuspicious Yoga

The bhavas get afflicted and the native gets ill effects for karakas (significators) of that bhava in case of following conditions (Based on Placement of Bhava Lord):

If the Lord of the Bhava
1) Occupies the 8th House
2) Is astangata (eclipsed by the sun)
3) Is in Debilitation Sign
4) Is In Inimical Sign
5) Is Not aspected by benefics
6) Is Not conjunct with benefics

In case of the above combinations even if the Bhava has benefics posited in it still the good effects of that bhava are nullified.

Note: The above yoga states that the strength and results of a bhava should be judged primarily by the Lord thus benefic planet placement in a bhava does not completely counter the ill effects of the bad placement of the bhava lord.

Important Deduction: Bhava Lord is more important than bhava

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 5(a): Auspicious Yoga

The following combinations cause Auspicious yoga:

1) Chandra Lagna Lord (Lord of the Rasi where moon is placed), Lagna Navamsha Lord, Lagnesh (Ascendant Lord) - Promotion

2) Lords of 9th House and 10th House from Lagna - Hapiness from Vehicles

3) 5,3,4,7 House Lords - Hapiness from Children

4) 2nd Lord and 11th Lord - Material Gains

The relationships should be: Conjunction, Aspect, Interchange
The planets should be in : Own Sign, Friendly Sign, Exaltation Sign.

Note: Though the 3rd Lord is considered malefic, but seems here the author is referring to 3rd as 11th from 5th and thus hapiness from children. This is a point for further research and discussion.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 5: Auspicious Yoga

The Following combinations cause Raj Yoga (Auspicious Yoga)

1) 9th Lord in 9th House and 10th Lord in 10th House
2) 9th Lord in 10th and 10th Lord in 9th House
3) 9th Lord in 10th Lords Rasi and Vice Versa
4) 9th Lord and 10th Lord Aspecting each other

If the 9th and 10th Lords are in 1,4,7, 5 Houses they cause Raj Yoga and result in hapiness and wealth to the native.

Note: The above is self explanatory, 1,4,7 being kendra sthanas and 5th house being the other Trikona sthana (apart from 9th) are the second best positions for 9th and 10th lords.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 4: Auspicious Yoga Strength

This Sloka defines the Intensity of the result (Position and stature of a person) of the Yoga based on 9th,10th Lordship from Lagna, 9th House and 10th House.
1) The Lords of the 9th and 10th House from Lagna (Highest Level)
2) The Lords of the 9th and 10th House from 9th House (Medium Level)
3) The Lords of 9th and 10th House from 10th House (Low Level)

The above should be related to each other as follows:
a) Interchange
b) Mutual Aspect
c) Conjunction
d) Mutual Kendra Position from each other
e) Conjunction with the Dispositor of Lagnesh (Rasi lord of the sign where Lagnesh / ascendant lord is placed)

The above yoga specifically mentions about the stature of a person in society.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 3(a): RajYoga (Auspicious Yoga)

The Yoga describes the good effects of relationship between 9th and 10th Lords

1) 9th Lord in 9th house and 10th Lord in 10th house (own houses)
2) 9th Lord in 10th House, 10th Lord in 9th House (Interchange)
3) 9th Lord and 10th Lord in either the 9th house or 10th house together
4) 9th Lord and 10th Lord Aspecting each other
5) If the 9th, 10th Lords are in conjunction with 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th house lords
6) If 9th , 10th Lords occupy 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th Houses

The above yogas bring wealth and hapiness to the native provided the 9th Lord or 10th Lord are not the lords of 8th or 11th House as well.

Here four type of relationship mentioned elsewhere in classical texts are important. For predictions the strength of the planets, houses and the strength of the relationship is important.

The following are listed in the decreasing order of strength, hence Interchange is the strongest yoga.

1) Interchange
2) Mutual Aspect
3) Lord of the Rasi aspecting a planet in its Rasi
4) Posited Together

Explanation: The 10th being the strongest kendra and 9th being the strongest trikona, the relationship of these two lords is auspicious in these houses.

Houses 1,4,7 being Kendra Houes are considered good for placement of 9th, 10th Lord, and bring auspicious results.
House 5 being the other Trikona house is also a good placement for 9th /10th Lord.

8th and 11th houses being inauspicious houses will result in nullification of the good results if the 9th and 10th lords are also lords of these inauspicious houses.

Impact:
1) Aries Lagna: 9th Lord: Jupiter, 10th Lord Saturn (Also 11th Lord hence ruled out)
2) Taurus Lagna: 9th Lord and 10th Lord Saturn
3) Gemini Lagna: 9th Lord: Saturn(also 8th lord hence ruled out), 10th Lord: Jupiter
4) Cancer Lagna: 9th Lord: Jupiter, 10th Lord: Mars
5) Leo Lagna: 9th Lord: Mars, 10th Lord: Venus
6) Virgo Lagna: 9th Lord: Venus, 10th Lord: Mercury
7) Libra: 9th Lord: Mercury, 10th Lord: Moon
8) Scorpio:9th Lord: Moon, 10th Lord: Sun
9) Saggitarius:9th Lord: Sun, 10th Lord: Mercury
10) Capricorn: 9th Lord: Mercury, 10th Lord: Venus
11) Aquarius:9th Lord: venus, 10th Lord: Mars
12) Pisces: 9th Lord: Mars, 10th Lord: Jupiter

Places where Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Mercury are involved in Yoga: 4

Places where Sun and Moon involved in Yoga: 2

Places where Saturn involved in Yoga : 2

Note: This indicates Saturn is only in the above auspicious yogas for all lagnas only once for Taurus Lagna (Both 9th and 10th Lord)

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 2: InAuspicioius Yoga

Planets lose strength (hence become incapable of giving good results) in the following conditions:

By Placement & Aspect
1) Debilitation Sign
2) Inimical Sign
3) Lost in Griha Yudha
4) Placed between Malefics (Paap Kartari)
5) Placed with Retrograde Planet(s)
6) Placed with Rahu
7) Placed in Bhava Sandhi (House Cusp)
8) Placement with (near) Sun (Astangata)
9) Aspected by Malefics

The Following Conditions will result in the auspiciousness of the Sloka 1 being negated:

If Lords of 6th, 8th and 12th Houses are placed with Lords of Kendra and Trikona Houses, they destroy the good effects of the Kendra / Trikona Lords (RajYog Bhang)

Uttara Kalamrita : Section IV Sloka 1: Planets in Various Houses and Effects

2. Own Sign , MoolTrikona Sign

Uttara Kalamrita : Section III Sloka 8: Ayurdaya (Life Span Calculation)

Alpayu Yoga ( Short Life Span)

1) Lagna (Ascendant) or Chandra Langa (Moon Sign) are aspected by Eighth Lord

or

2) Eighth Lord from Lagna or Chandra Lagna is aspected by Saturn or Mars

And

3) Lagnesh (Lagna Lord, Ascendant Lord), Chandra Lagna Lord, Dispositor of Lagna Lord are not having any benefic aspect of benefic planets

The above combination leads to short span of life.

The Sloka should be read as 1) or 2) and 3 Means either of 1, 2 and condition 3 should be satisfied for this yoga.

Explanation of Point 1 in the above Yoga:

Eighth Lord though is the lord of the Ayu Sthana still being the lord of 8th house is the most malefic planet in the horoscope, Aspect & Association of Eighth Lord is considered bad and is evident in all classical texts. Thus its aspect on Lagna or Chandra Lagna will reduce lifespan.

Explanation of Point 2 in the above Yoga:

Eighth Lord being the Significator for Ayu (Lifespan) aspect of malefic planets on the 8th Lord (Mars & Saturn) will lead to reduced lifespan.

Explanation of Point 3 in the above Yoga:

In case of the above points 1) and 2) being present in the horoscope, there is still hope for a medium / long lifespan in case point 3 is present.

Benefic Aspect on the below would nullify the maleficance of the points 1) and 2). Benefic Aspect being Jupiter, Venus.

- Lagna Lord
- Chandra Lagna Lord
- Dispositor of Lagna Lord

Points of consideration : Only Dispositor of Lagna Lord is considered in Ayurdaya. Chandra Lagna Lord Dispositor is not considered in LifeSpan Calculation.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section III Sloka 7: Ayurdaya (Life Span Calculation)

1) Benefic Aspects to Lagnesh (Lord of the Ascendant) from benefics posted in Kendra Trikona Increases Longevity else it results in short life and malefic effects on progency, wife and intellect.

This is self explanatory as benefit aspect to Lagnesh is considered good and vice versa in all classical texts.

The benefics become strong in Kendra and Trikona (See Shloka 6) hence strong benefics aspecting the ascendant lord will bring in good results.

Since Lagnesh is the most important planet and significator for almost everything hence malefic results in case there are no benefit aspects are listed which are generic incuding progency, wife and intellect.

2) Benefic Aspects to Lagna and dispositor of the Lagnesh increases Longevity else the above bad results will ensue.

Similar to 1) above here the author is indicating that Lagna and Dispositor of Lagnesh when in benefic aspect increase longevity.

The above two good yogas will also result in good intellect, luck, fame.

Uttara Kalamrita : Section III Sloka 6: Ayurdaya (Life Span Calculation)

1) Venus, Jupiter and Mercury when placed in Kendra or Trikona give full life to the native.
The above is self explanatory as the placement of benefits in Kendra and Trikona has good results which are documented in each and every classical text.
Placement in Lagna of Benefic Planets has been marked as good and excellent in all classical texts.

2) Venus, Jupiter and Mercury when placed in 2nd, 3rd or 11th Houses give medium life to the native.

This placement of benefics is though good but not excellent. Upchaya stanas 3rd and 11th.
2nd house placement of benefics is important hear as the planets will have full drishti on 8th house the house of longevity.

3) Venus, Jupiter, Mercury when placed in 6th, 8th,12th Houses give short lifespan to the native.

This placement of benefics in dushsthanas (6,8,12) is not at all good for the lifespan of the native.

[To be tested / Verified]: However 8th house placement of benefics should ideally give good results for lifespan as benefics enhance the effects of the house they are posited in. Placement of Malefics in 8th house should reduce lifespan (except saturn as it is ayushkaraka and significator of the 8th house).

Note: To give references from other classical texts here.

Other view is that the lifespan of the native is determined by the strength of the natural benefic planets and they are not strong in the 8th house and hence unable to give full benefic results including increased lifespan.
Views from readers in the comments section would be of great help in deciding the context.

4) Malefic Planets give short life when placed in Kendra or Trikona or 8th, 12th House.

This placement of malefics in Kendra Trikona is not considered good and references are available in almost all classical texts on this.

6th House placement of Malefics is considered good and that is the reason that Malefics in (1,4,7,10 and 5,9 and 8,12) houses are considered bad.

Not Mentioned in sloka: Malefics in house number 2 should also give bad results as malefics aspecting 8th house of life would give bad results for lifespan of the native)

Not Mentioned in Sloka: 3d house placement, as 3rd is the 8th from 8th , placement of malefics in 3rd should also reduce longevity.

Important deductions:

1) Good Placement of Benefics is essential for Longevity
2) Benfic Placement and Drishti on Kendra / Trikona is good for Longevity
3) Malefic Placement and Drishti on Kendra / Trikona is Bad for Longevity
4) Malefic Pacement in 8th House and 12th House (Moksha Sthana) is bad for Longevity. 12th is also kona sthana for 8th.

The AstroSutra Journey Begins

Hi,
What is the aim of AstroSutra? Hmm its a good topic for the very first few posts and suggestions and comments are welcome.

To do Authentic Research into vedic astrology principles. Vedic Astrology is spread across texts from various ages and principles and contradictions are galore. Most of the stuff that is available in classical texts is not well understood, or is not relevant anymore. The idea of AstroSutra is to propage the principles test them using scientific statistical principles and rule out the principles which are not applicable or have been put into the texts either to confuse the unwanted by the authors or mistakenly by translators.
